Go Fish Rules: A Simple and Fun Card Game for All Ages

Introduction to Go Fish

Go Fish is a timeless card game that can be enjoyed by players of all ages. The objective of the game is to collect sets of matching cards by asking opponents for specific ranks of cards from their hands. The player with the most sets at the end of the game wins.

Setup

To set up a game of Go Fish, shuffle a standard 52-card deck and deal five cards to each player. If playing with more than four players, deal fewer cards to each player to ensure there are enough cards for everyone to draw from.

Gameplay

The player to the dealer's left goes first and asks any opponent if they have a specific rank of card (e.g., "Do you have any sevens?"). If the opponent has any cards of that rank, they must give them to the asking player, who then gets to go again. If the opponent does not have any cards of that rank, they reply, "Go Fish," and the asking player must draw a card from the deck.

If the drawn card matches the rank the asking player requested, they get to go again. If not, their turn ends, and play passes to the next player clockwise.

Collecting Sets

When a player collects a set of four cards of the same rank (e.g., four sevens), they place the set face up in front of them. The player then gets another turn to ask for cards.

Winning the Game

The game continues until all the cards have been collected into sets. The player with the most sets at the end of the game is declared the winner. In the case of a tie, the player with the most valuable sets (e.g., sets of higher-ranking cards) wins.
